Nicolae Pauleti in the Perspective of Posterity

Summary/Abstract: Pauleti, a Romanian poet, a translator and a folklorist, has none glory. He was a priest in a Transylvanian little village of the 19th century appreciated by the locals, for his intensive reading and writing. Only in the 20th, a few philologists, folklorists and historians made known part of his manuscripts. Later they published a relevant analysis of his contribution to folklore and literature. Pauleti translated from Metamorphoses by Ovidius and from Ephesian Tale of Anthia and Habrocomes by Xenophon of Ephesus. Romanians did not publish the last one, although no other translation exists, and the narrative oral valences are of exceptional quality. We may consider Pauleti as a representative of aurea mediocritas. He enjoyed creating, with no fame either in his time or after his death, but he had a few admirers and produced remarkable writings for his epoch.
