Summary/Abstract: The field of foreign language learning has undergone various paradigm shifts in order to accommodate to the constant changes taking place in the social, cultural and educational contexts. This paper intended to justify the role of culture in the context of learning the Norwegian language. The main emphasis was placed on the fact that foreign language learning is both a communicative and an intercultural endeavor.
