Summary/Abstract: This article may not be the canonic academic paper with which some readers are accustomed to. At worst, the reader will be able to examine an extensive methodological toolkit (i.e., participant observation, focus group, and document analysis) involved in the research of a case-study, that of Rupea Citadel, to grasp various theoretical backgrounds in the field of cultural tourism that will enhance her/his understandings about patrimonialization and the mercantilization of the authentic, especially when the reference framework relies on reflexive sociology, social epistemology and socio-hermeneutic production of knowledge. At best, the ones with the “eyes wide shut” will have the chance to plunge into the life-world of a research (meta)object, and gain – via participant objectivation – some autoethnographical insights, useful in the depiction of the endless layers and multiple facets of a particular instance of a socio-epistemic experience. As a helping hand in the endeavor, we can offer here the description of our own journey together with the epistemological access at its back stages.
