Summary/Abstract: The article aims at compliance with the principles of central banking in terms of independence, with particular reference to the implementation of the independent central bank in Poland and against other selected countries. How to monitor characteristics, central mode of operation and functionality. In the early stages of development, central banks were generally considered in the form of value systems. Their privileges and positions were determined. The Maastricht Treaty was a legal act that had a key influence in shaping today’s dominant concept of an independent central bank, which pursued free monetary policy at its sole discretion. In Poland key legal acts became the 1997 Constitution and the NBP Act of 29 August 1997, which guaranteed the NBP’s strong position and independence.
