Summary/Abstract: Our article focuses on the analysis of a special literary genre of the 16th century ‒ the mirrors for princes, a special type of parenetical work which was aimed at initiating the ruler in the "mysteries" of being a good monarch. Within the first half of the 16th century, in both Wallachia and Spain, prince Neagoe Basarab and Antonio de Guevara wrote two different mirrors and although they were unaware of each other´s work, a detailed analysis offers us an interesting panorama of the ethical values that reigned in two different corners of Europe.
