Summary/Abstract: Idiomatic structures make up the core of the language, representing the building blocks that native and non-native speakers use on a daily basis in their communicative endeavours. The aim of the current paper falls under the scope of comparative phraseology, providing an outline of the main research venues adopted in the study of formulaic language in Spain, while also drawing on resources proposed by European tradition. Thus, our intended purpose is to highlight the main characteristics of phraseologic units and evaluate the degree to which specific translation strategies manage to transpose and preserve their idiomatic meaning in the receiving culture, in the case of literary translations.
