Summary/Abstract: Besides the metaphysical dimension of the term, Camil Petrescu's work captures the current meaning of the absolute, which can be found in a few syntagmas: absolute love, absolute justice. The manner in which the writer manages to find a different face of the absolute every time is remarkable, as, even though this becomes the main topic of his work, one cannot speak about characters' monotony. The writer does not deplete his resources while trying to shape an existence to match his sensible demands. Throughout the writer's work, one can perceive a hegemony of the intellectual, defined not by social status but through the values he supports and cultivates and also by appreciating intelligence. Last but not least, what has drawn our attention is the writer's continuous concern to offer an aesthetic and philosophical foundation to his work, his approach being perhaps unique in the Romanian literature.
