Summary/Abstract: Romanian cultural elite discovered too late the purpose and miraje of a journey. Our curiosity tries to discern the ways in which ruins and old wallings managed to shape thruthful images of the past and to reveal glimpes of history. We do not ascribe unconditionally the illusion of former glory to ruins. We search for the past, as we’re not haunted by the utopia of assigning it only good acts but free to suspect it of misfortune and noncompliance of those who have lived to fulfill a destiny. Such an analysis tends to understand the transformation of travel books’ reader in author and artist, particularly. Let us see which were the pretexts of initiation of wanderings and the manner in which they presented their impressions of travel, and how artists painted the rock on sheet and canvas.
