Summary/Abstract: In the spring of 1920, a few teachers in Iași founded the “Consumer Cooperative of Teachers”, initiated by Alexandru D. Atanasiu (1871-1943). The idea of establishing such a professional company was quickly agreed, so great personalities of Iași in the interwar period were on its list: Sever Zotta, Alexandru Băleanu, Iorgu Iordan, Vasile Petrovan, Traian Bratu, Constantin Botez, Petru Bogdan, Eduard Candella, Iosef Casetti, Tereza Strătilescu, Maria Poni, Constantin Fedeleş, August Scriban, Th. Cerchez, Teofil Simenschi, Constantin Parhon, Gheorghe Ghibănescu, Constantin and Elena Meissner, Orest Tafrali, Radu Cernătescu. According to its status, the company’s management was provided by the General Assembly, the Board of Directors and the Board of Censors. The Cooperative of Teachers was a professional association of charity. Although it had been established with great enthusiasm, the Cooperative broke scandalously after 10 years of existence. The decomposition of such an economic institution with few pedagogical resorts marked the existence of both several local personalities and great cultural institutions of Iași, such as the city’s Municipal Museum. The human resources, though conditioned by the economic crisis of the period, was the link for the two institutions and also the factor that ultimately determined their disappearance.
