Summary/Abstract: In the present study we examine some prelinguistic traits in the intonation of Hungarian learners of Spanish, such as the position of the first peak and the tonal characteristics of the body in declarative utterances. We compare our results with the research carried out on Spanish corpora by Ballesteros Panizo (2011), Cantero & Font-Rotchés (2007) and Mateo Ruiz (2014). Th e corpus we base our investigation on was elaborated following the Melodic Analysis of Speech theory, abbreviated as MAS, the protocol which is detailed in Cantero & Font-Rotchés 2009.
