Summary/Abstract: Th is article covers a period of almost half a century of literary translation on two territories: Yugoslavia (until its disintegration in 1990) and Serbia. Between the publication of Huasipungo by Ecuadorian author Jorge Icaza (1964) and Distancia de rescate by Argentine writer Samanta Schweblin (2017) we have investigated 25 short novels by authors from ten Latin American countries and their reception. With that purpose we have interviewed four protagonists –translators and editors– of dozens of editions of Spanish-American short stories over decades; thanks to their testimony and to the consulted published books, we have come to the conclusion that both in Yugoslavia and in Serbia the Latin American short novel is omnipresent, that the impact of most of them is great and that many of them had multiple editions.
