Summary/Abstract: This paper aims to identify the antinomies lived by the romantic characters from Mihai Eminescu's novel, Geniu pustiu. Toma Nour, Poesis, Ioan and Sofia are those problematic natures, unadapted and inadaptable, at the same time, whom their - social, emotional and ethical - antinomies, generated by the problematic of their historical and social position, are overwhelming for their souls, therefore they all have a tragic end.
