Summary/Abstract: The paper aims to analyze the attitude of Blagoje Neskovic towards the compulsory crop purchase policy. Blagoje Neskovic was a prominent figure in the communist movement of Yugoslavia who held key government offices after World War II. At the congress to found the Communist Party of Serbia in May 1945, Neskovic was appointed Central Committee secretary, and he held the office until 1948. In 1945-1948, Neskovic held the office as prime minister of People’s Republic of Serbia, and from 1946 until 1951 he also chaired the State Control Commission of People’s Republic of Serbia. At the top government meeting in March 1947, Neskovic was criticized for implementing an excessively lax policy as regards crop purchase quotas in Vojvodina. On this occasion, Blagoje Neskovic did not take heed of the criticism voiced by the top party leadership. Even though Neskovic underscored on multiple occasions later on that he had strived to demonstrate that Serbia had been unjustly burdened by the crop purchase plans, historical records refer to Neskovic as the instigator of a brutal crop purchase campaign in the Republic of Serbia. In 1952, Neskovic assumed the office as deputy prime minister of the Federal People’s Republic of Yugoslavia. In October 1952, however, the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia appointed a commission which stripped him of all his offices. One of the charges stated that he did not implement the official policy of the Communist Party of Yugoslavia in the crop purchase and instead acted as an opportunist. Drawing on the available archive materials and historical records, the paper aims to shed a closer light on Blagoje Neskovic’s role in the implementation of the crop purchase policy in the territory of People’s Republic of Serbia.
