Summary/Abstract: This paper examines John Dewey’s notion of the relation of education and democracy in order to illuminate the Bulgarian education context today. It analyzes two essays from Dewey’s late period where he clearly explicates this relation, focusing on the challenge that democracy offers to education. Through the basic categories used by Dewey – information, knowledge, and intelligence – the analysis shows how the challenge of democracy can be met, especially in the specific context of education.
