Summary/Abstract: The article is a research reconnaissance that attempts to address the problem of space in Zygmunt Haupt’s prose. It polemicizes with the thesis of the dominant character of temporal categories in this writing and draws the frame of literary cartography based on the mechanisms of space perception that are described here. This cartography operates with a constant tension between the experienced and the exotic territories, between the physicality of the place and the imagined geography, between consciousness that is an external tool of cognition and the self-annihilation of the “I” for space. Haupt’s cartographic activity focuses primarily on three types of autobiographical places, which, after experiencing the great literary goals of modernism, delimit a cosy space adapted to the cognitive and creative capabilities of an individual.
