Summary/Abstract: Although it has now abandoned the romantic notion that popular literature is an eternal and timeless phenomenon, the myth of Volksgeist, like so many romantic myths, has survived until today, at least in Spain. Especially since the establishment of the autonomous state has re-emerged forcefully the idea that popular literary manifestations are the true expression of the people, one of its hallmarks, attached to a fixed boundary, which makes them different to those of other countries and defining a national character. The author demonstrates in this work, through a careful analysis of Albaniña romance, which, by contrast, popular literature is a transnational and multicultural product adapted to successive present, projected into the future and constantly reworking.
