Summary/Abstract: In this article, we sought to analyze the relationships established by the phenomenon of populism/neo-populism in relation with the neoliberal economic model, and with democracy, respectively. Given how dominant and paternalistic the state is in the (neo)populist framework, the majority of researchers see both as opposing an economic model based on neoliberal ideas, and as a great threat to democracy. In light of this, our present analysis is based on the hypothesis that the relation between these concepts is much more complex and nuanced.
