Summary/Abstract: In 1959, a visionary architect, painter, sculptor and professor of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, Oskar Hansen, formulated the Open Form theory. The piece of work in its convention was an integral part of the accompanying events and contexts. He, thus, opposed the art of the dominant object in space. During his didactic work at the Sculpture Department, Hansen shared his theory with many generations of students, encouraging them to artistic practice going beyond traditional disciplines, to use context as an integral part of the piece of work, to establish new, non-artistic relations and get rid of the fear of undefinition of the work. In the text, I will look at the idea of Open Form and its evolution based on the example of artistic creativity and attitude of the artists where the echoes of Oskar Hansen’s ideas are clearly seen: Grzegorz Kowalski, Paweł Althamer, Artur Żmijewski, Łukasz Surowiec and Krzysztof M. Bednarski.
