Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the main moments which have led to the creation of the European Union. There are also presented the main stages of the establishment of several European institutions, such as: the European Economic Community, the European Community of Atomic Energy, the European Coal and Steel Community etc., between 1945 and 1970, their development and evolution. The conclusion refers to the fact that Europe has begun to turn into an important economic force capable of beginning an intense process of political partnership.
