Summary/Abstract: Mihai Lukács, the director of the only all-Roma theatre troupe of Romania, Giuvlipen, analyses the possibilities for changing the dominant narrative about the Roma people. His main question concerns the staging of the Roma identity and the artistic forms that can be used in this process. Their “Gadjological” exercises are strongly focused on the avoidance of generalizations and stereotypes, on the dislocation of the spectators longing for reliable solutions and on his/her active participation, while always calling into question the representative character of theatre itself.
