Summary/Abstract: The article highlights three main points: (1) the experiment - once, as a research that tries to outline the dimensions of the interconnection between the literary work and its screened version in the minds of today's young people, and secondly as an experiment of the Regime on socialist society through the mechanisms of cinema. (2) the public - what have been the public attitudes and expectations of cinema in Bulgaria before 1989 and what are contemporary public expectations regarding the obligatory literary works in education in literature and their film analogues; (3) the regime - the specifics of ideological uses of cinema; the strategies of "the regime" in the formation of national self-awareness through the tools of literary education and through interpretations of classical literary stories in screen productions (TV theater, film, TV series). The article is based on a study conducted among students in Bulgarian Philology (full-time and part-time) and in English Language and Ethnology (full-time), at the Faculty of Philology at "Neofit Rilski" South-West University during 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 academic years. The survey has been conducted in the form of polls and semi-structured interviews.
