Summary/Abstract: This paper is written to propose a new line of research that aims to reconsider the relationship author-text-reader. The grounding support of my claims is based on the newly emergent cognitive sciences, in particular cognitive poetics, with the focus on the reader and the underlying cognitive process that take place in the course of reading. In order to explain this shift of focus, I begin an inquiry into the recent history of critical studies that have placed the reader at the centre of their fundamental preoccupations.
