System Function of Ideology - an Introduction to the Issues

Summary/Abstract: Former discussion about ideologies, have revealed some misunderstandings about its relation to the institutional system and systemic function of ideology. Those misunderstandings, though presumably superannuated, are still present, partly through the political and ideological debates. This paper deals with the problems of systemic functions of ideology, from the perspective of systemic approach, perceiving ideology as the system—stabilizing instrument. This approach and its conclusions are confronted by the opposite, in the frame of which the dominant position is occupied by the Bell's conception. We close by sketching outlines of application of this approach, and some of its impacts on political theory (mostly on the theory of political systems, ideological and political process).
