Summary/Abstract: Since there is no universal plan ban of nuclear weapons; some states have tried at least ways to eliminate nuclear weapons from their regions. These states have achieved this aim by making regional treaty on nuclear weapon free zones. Creating nuclear weapon free zones has two types of objectives. The first is an immediate one the security strengthening of the member States complete prohibition of nuclear weapons within the zone; and the second objective would be complete nuclear disarmament in the world. There have been many ideas about creating nuclear weapon free zones; and they have been created in four regions: a) Latin America and the Caribbean; b) South Pacific; c) Sout-East Asia; d) Africa. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons in Latin America had been made in 1967; and it was changed in 1990 when its effects were extended to the Caribbean. The South Pacific Nuclear Free Zone Threaty; which has eliminated nuclear weapons from this region was made in 1985. The Treaty of Sout-East Asia nuclear weapon free zone signed in Bangkok in December 1995; while the African continent declared nuclear weapon free zone in 1996 when the Treaty on the nuclear weapon free zone in Africa was signed. In the Treaties mentioned above there have been rights and duties of the member States which should contribute to complete elimination of nuclear wea¬pons from those regions. However; nuclear energy is not completely prohibited in those regions; because it can be used for peaceful purposes. Beside rights and duties; all Treaties creating nuclear weapon free zones have contained numerous verification measures whose aim is better appli¬cation of those Treaties. Beside these nuclear weapon free zone Treaties; which include the du¬ties of the States in these regions; there are some protocols refering to the nuc¬lear powers; as well to the states responsible for some territories in those re¬gions. The complete absence of nuclear weapon in those regions in ensured by creating certain duties for these states; too.
