Benefits from the knowledge of the digitalization achievements in the United States

Summary/Abstract: The digitization of materials that is their implementation into the memory of computers, is now the most popular method of preservation, as well as the popularization of cultural heritage. The pioneers in this field were Americans, including Michael Hart, who as early as in the 1970s made the first successful digitization of the Declaration of Independence. Databases created there off er access to resources which are impressive with their multitude of files. The lack of fees and the ability to look closely at the materials and familiarize with them make research easier and faster. US standards may serve as inspiration for actions aimed at protecting and popularizing works collected in Polish institutions.
