Summary/Abstract: Christian confessions are differ significantly in their approach to termination of marriage by means of divorce. The Orthodox Church, accepting the sacramental character of marriage, allows for divorce and agrees for marrying again. An important role in shaping of religious norms is played by the autocephalous system within the Church. In accordance with it, the church canons based on the dogmas of the Orthodox Church must be interpreted with respect to the situation of the local church and with respect to the particular point in history. The legal perspective determined in that way indicates the sensitivity of the Church for social changes, which also influence the way termination of marriage is interpreted. The article discusses the internal statutes of the Polish Autocephalous Orthodox Church regulating the rules for terminating the marriage, since the emancipation of the Orthodox Church in Poland until today.
