Summary/Abstract: The abolition of compulsory military service and the professionalisation of the Polish Army has its positive and negative aspects. As far as positive aspects are concerned, a large number of new job posts has been created in the state institutions, which is regarded as quite stable and offers attractive financial opportunities as well as certain privileges. Hence the unprecedented interest in the professional military service, with a single vacancy for even dozen candidates. The negative part of the recruitment is, unfortunately, connected with difficulties in filling all military posts due to an inability to comply with demanding requirements necessary to become a soldier. It is a reason of difficulties in filling military posts. Professionalisation of the army is also an opportunity for women. Until now, only certain amount of women had military training. These were mainly the people with medical training. Feminization of the military resulting primarily from international standards greatly expands the possibility of women’s employment, particularly in linear units. Women can acquire appropriate qualifications and take commanding positions in all types of weapons. Obviously, it does not meant hat for health reasons, it is always desirable (eg in the case of supersonic aircraft pilots). Therefore, there is still a strong tendency to employ women as civilian employees of the Army. The paper outlines some of the psychological problems that arise in connection with the professional military service of women. The author will also present the struggle of women to be participants of military effort of Poland and organizational aspects of military service in Poland.
