Summary/Abstract: Creating the image of the catholic Church in the media is the mainly topic of this study. Thematic issues related to the image of Church in the press were used to structure the content of the article. In the first part, the attention were devoted to the general characteristics of the press discourse and the specificity of press religious publications. In the next part, the techniques of creating the image of the Catholic Church were approximated, supported by examples from press publications of the daily press and the opinion-forming weeklies thematically referring to three important events of the life of the Church, which the media were interested. These are: the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI from the office of the Pope and synods: about the family in 2014 and in 2015, and about the youth in 2018. Systematisation and organization of press material by means of qualitative content analysis allowed to distinguish several techniques that can be treated as exemplifications of certain permanent patterns of church image descriptions. These are: the technique of formatting the coverage in a positive or negative context, the technique of disinformation, the technique of fragmentation, the technique of instructing and enforcing change and the in-depth technique.
