The Normative Dimension of the Pastoral Formation of Seminarians

Summary/Abstract: This article presents the Church’s vision for the pastoral formation of candidates for the priesthood. Specifically, the concept for formation contained in the new The Gift of the Priestly Vocation: Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis (2016) will be presented in light of the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and post-conciliar popes, including St. John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis. Local churches, including those in Poland, can adapt and implement this concept of pastoral formation in major seminaries. This analysis will focus on initial pastoral formation, the nature and aims of pastoral formation, and the study of pastoral theology and pastoral practices in preparation for the priesthood.
