Summary/Abstract: The study aims to analyse the changes in the body of county officials from theTransylvanian areas inhabited by German population in between 1919 and 1925. The research included the counties of Sibiu, Braşov, Târnava Mare and Bistriţa-Năsăud and relied mainly on sources from the archives of the central authorities (theRuling Council, the Ministry of Interior) and the counties. The civil servants’ethnicity, professional training and administrative experience were observed, and theconclusions highlighted how the process of Romanianization of the countyadministration has gradually evolved, its limits, the influence of politics, continuityand discontinuities in the professional training and experience of the personnel. Thereconfigurations of the period 1919-1925 led to the overall achievement of an ethnicbalance in relation to the demographic situation (as opposed to the dualist period),but on the hierarchical ladder the decision positions were being held mainly byRomanian officials while the lower levels of the hierarchy were filled in withrepresentatives of minorities, mostly Saxons. A relative, not very strong decrease inthe general level of studies and of office experience is also identifiable, due to theadvancement of the civil servants from the local administration (mainly villagenotaries) to the county offices after 1919.
