Summary/Abstract: Various factors have been effective in the formation of the population structure of Trabzon in the transition from the Ottoman Empire to the Republic. It can be seen that the population of Trabzon which was a big state before the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey has decreased owing to the narrowing of its borders as a result of the changes in administrative division. In addition, wars, migrations, political and social movements have affected the city both socioeconomically and demographically. The purpose of the study is to put forward the population development of Trabzon by taking the periodical census data dating back to the 1950’s from the early years of the Republic with its reasons and results. A statistical evaluation has been made via primary indicators such as population increase, density, rural-urban and male-female population balance and migration. In this study, official statistical datas, archival resources, annuals, newspapers and other resources were used.
