Summary/Abstract: Female pelvic floor is responsible for urinary and fecal continence and plays an important role in female sexual responses. Pelvic floor muscle training has been more and more recommended for conservative treatment of urinary incontinence and enhancing sexual satisfaction. On the market, there are many available devices aiming to activate pelvic floor muscle structures and improving the effectiveness of their training. Many clinicians encourage their patients to use pelvic floor muscle training devices, whereas others claim that not only are they ineffective, but also they can further worsen the dysfunction. The purpose of the article is to present benefits and possible limitations of these devices. Knowledge on pelvic floor mechanics and their training physiology enables to choose the most appropriate device, which, in turn, leads to the optimization of training and limiting possible side effects.
