Summary/Abstract: This article proposes a historical and critical evaluation of the mediated music, which is highly influenced and reconstructed by the modus operandi of the new communication technologies. The representation of music, initially massified by the radio, then by the television and finally by the Internet, creates nowadays a prepared listening and generates a degraded musical reception in the world. This study aims to analyze the components of the strategies of the industrialization process of the musical offer, which is supposedly unlimited but implicitly repetitive and manipulative. The evaluations herein state that there happens to be a standardization of the musical sphere yielded by the rationalization process of popular culture’s hegemony strengthened by the new communication technologies, where the artistic criteria that used to distinguish the music genres have now been interweaved. The mediatization of music is therefore capable of creating a reduced musical preference and giving rise to the standardization of taste and ways of life.
