Summary/Abstract: The 18th century Gdańsk was an attractive city for the Polish noble class. When visiting the city, less affluent representatives of this social class stayed in inns or taverns. Better-off ones rented rooms or apartments, sometimes even whole houses. Only a small number of them — usually the representatives of noblemen from the Pomerania region — took the decision to settle in Gdańsk. They usually bought burgher houses and adapted them to their needs. Some of them, however, wanted to possess manor houses surrounded by extensive gardens, situated in the city suburbs or in the villages near the city that be¬longed to the Cistercian monastery in Oliwa.
