Summary/Abstract: Cladded in legendary identity Sari Ashik is our enigmatic minstrel who are said to have contradictory ideas. He has dealt with the most contradictory myths, his works are involved in folk creativity and a tomb planted on his grave. He is more commonly known as a master of bayati, a general idea in the history of Azerbaijani literature and folklore classrooms about him is that he was 17 th century minstrel moved from South Azerbaijan’s Karadagh to North Azerbaijan Karabagh region. In the early period of 20th century and in recent research contradictory ideas were talked about real name of minstrel, true identity, space, period of living, where he originally came from. The aim of the report is to bring together some detailed information that has been written up to now related to the Sari Ashik, and which is particularly skipped or unrecognized, and leads to new investigations by originally questioning certain opinions. In our study, besides the scientific researches related to the subject, the epics, narrations and legends about Ashik, the information about the people alleged to have lived in the same period, and Ashik’s own poetry and fancies were examined. The stereotyped general idea about Sari Ashik who lived and died here in Karabagh was originally from Karadagh in South Azerbaijan. Apart from this, some researchers say he was from Karaman in Turkey, and a few researchers say he was from Karabagh where he lived his life. In the declaration, the concepts of “Karadagh” and “Karaman”, which are related to Sari Ashik, have been examined, focusing on this issue. We hope that our work of questioning some stereotypical phrases about the affairs of the Sari Ashik embedded in legends will lead to new scientific debates.
