Summary/Abstract: This paper probes the dynamics of the relationship between ontological and epistemologicalaspects of the writer’s personality in the process of life-writing. In particular, itattempts to show the interrelation between personal cognitive development and autobiographicalwriting which has within it the potential for wider transformative social resonance.It might be argued that in certain instances the impact reaches into the social dimension,extending outward the positive changes in author and reader. My study broughtclassification of different functions of life-writings and their connection with cognitivelevels and personal-social relationships; this study defined different functions of autobiographies,which can be classified as follows:Personal motives – to define the meaning of the own life, to create a coherent self,silence the voices of imposing conventions, break one’s own silence, get empowered;The second motive is to raise consciousness, to help others recognize their ownproblems, reassess one’s sense of guilt, develop more cognizant approach to diverse socialinstitutions and relationships...
