Summary/Abstract: The disintegration of the former Yugoslavia was followed by a series of wars during the nineties, marked by serious human rights violations. The legacy of violence in the past still hovers over the region and threatens human rights and social cohesion. The purpose of this essay is to emphasize that the right to information about past human rights violations remains fundamental to achieving national reconciliation and also, it aims to survey the wide range of means whereby this can be achieved.
