Summary/Abstract: Emőke Bodor wrote an essay about Chinese puppet theatre entitled Between Tradition and Modernity. The text deals with the legends about the creation of the Chinese puppet, different traditions and the place of puppetry in Chinese culture. The essay reveals which of the genres enumerated (scale-rod theatre, cloth pouch puppets, marionette, gunpowder puppets, shadow-play) are still present in Chinese culture and what it​ means to be a puppet artist in China.
