Summary/Abstract: Names of countries and peoples make part of some few but important data about the early ethno-political history of the regions. The pre-statehood history of the lands between the Carpathian Mountains and the Dniester River tells about evolution here of some regional trends in the 5th—13th centuries, which had a decisive impact on the future of this territory and its population. From among a multitude of existing factors, this paper addresses the action of just three, most important ones: the East-Roman, Slavic and Turkic influences. All these factors played an important role in evolution and development of a state named Moldavia in the Carpathian-Dniester region. Thus, even the earliest features of the local feudal institutes had a significant impact on subsequent evolution of this state.
