Summary/Abstract: The issues of emigrants and immigrants, the relations between the locals and the foreigners raise not only political and ethnic questions, but also ethical and religious concerns. Modern sociology has developed quite an extensive migration glossary which shall be consulted in theological reflections on forced, coerced or voluntary leaving of one’s own homeland or native country. The Holy Book – the Word of God – is the guiding criterion for the Christians. In line with the sociological insights into emigration and following the Book of Jeremiah – since our historical context bears a striking resemblance to Jeremiah’s time marked by warfare, deportation („human displacement“), banishment and voluntary migration – the article seeks to answer the three prevailing questions: how to treat those who leave their homeland; should one stay in one’s homeland under extremely unfavorable circumstances and how to live in your native country as opposed to living in a new land?
