Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of preparing elementary school teachers for professional activity. A theoretical analysis of the approaches of modern scientists in which the essence and content of the concept “training”, “vocational training”, “professional training of the future teacher of elementary school” are substantiated. Also disclosed: the stages in the history of formation and development of teacher training, factors of new approaches to the preparation of teachers, the direction of improving the process of general pedagogical training. The concepts of “readiness” and “vocational training” are emphasized: the preparation of future primary school teachers represents a holistic, complex multicomponent process of mastering the students’ knowledge, skills, skills, practical experience in a particular field of pedagogical activity, and the result of such training is the readiness of the future a teacher to professional activity, which is a personality quality and also acts as a regulator of a successful professional activity. Professional readiness includes psychological readiness (a set of both internal and external conditions, as well as personal qualities of a specialist teacher), which reflects the internal confidence and determination, the state of mobilization, which is formed in the process of professional training and ensures the success of the activity.
