Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study was to identify the level of physical fitness and somatic parameters of students of tourism and recreation programmes at selected universities in Cracow. The merger examined 194 students (female – 151 and male – 43) from the Cracow University of Economics (female – 63, male – 17), the Pedagogical University of Cracow (female – 42) and the University of Physical Education in Krakow (female – 46, male – 26) in Cracow. The students’ height, weight and the circumference of their waist and hips were measured, and the percentage of water and fat in the body was estimated (the weight of TANITA model BC-1000). Their level of physical fitness was determined using the European Fitness Test (EUROFIT). The research showed that the students generally have adequate somatic parameters for BMI, hydration (percentage of water), amount of adipose tissue (percentage of adipose tissue) and its distribution (WHR indicator). In addition, students present good and perfect levels of balance and explosive lower limb strength and medium levels of movement speed in their upper limbs, flexibility, torso muscle strength and cardiorespiratory endurance. The type of university significantly differentiates the universities in terms of the students’ physical fitness, with the University of Physical Education in Krakow students usually presenting a higher level of physical fitness than their counterparts at the Pedagogical University of Cracow and Cracow University of Economics.
