Summary/Abstract: The article describes the Udmurt suffix -ńi of local orientation and identifies its morphological and some of its syntactic properties. The origin of the suffix is investigated in detail. The process of the morpheme development is reconstructed in the light of secondary contacts of the Permic languages. The article also provides data on its functional analogue -in used in the Komi languages. The research is conducted considering the areas where the suffix is used and its dialectal doubleе -ti.
