Summary/Abstract: In recent years the category of non-financial risks has become a challenge for global banking industry. This broad combination describes the occurrence of unfavorable events and suffering of losses as a result of factors connected with the main activity of credit institutions. The consequences of imposed fines and sanctions are valued in billions. Their impressive amounts definitely exacerbate banks’ balance sheets, already burdened by the need for covering a number of new regulatory requirements. The article examines the growing importance of this risk category as some of the measures connected with its counteraction.
