Right of the Citizens of the European Union to Diplomatic and Consular Protection

Summary/Abstract: The article studies the right of the citizens of the European Union to diplomatic andconsular protection and in particular the development of the EU legal order in the area ofdiplomatic and consular protection. Diplomatic and consular protection under internationallaw is examined to clarify the essence of the EU right to diplomatic and consular protection.The evolution of the EU’s secondary legislation is being discussed. Some major problems thatcreate difficulties have been outlined as obstacles to the effective exercise of the diplomaticand consular protection right by the citizens of the member states.
