Summary/Abstract: The article is intended to analyze the process of developing trust in relations between researchers and their subjects in the context of qualitative field research. This process is composed of three sub-processes: minimization of the feeling of threat in the subjects, related to their participation in the project, and development of the feeling of security; work over relation; defining the researcher’s role. The course of these sub-processes depends on how effectively the researcher is in building the image of a reliable person that one can establish an authentic relation with and agree on mutual expectations related to their roles. These actions help the interaction partners to establish a rapport, what is reflected in the quality of data collected within the research project. The article is based on the analysis of data collected during multi-annual ethnographic studies performed in escort agencies.
