Summary/Abstract: A private archive, and especially one of its rare subspecies, a private ethnical archive, represents a great symbolic resource and great social capital, and as such is a very powerful tool in construction of identity and in gaining social power. In this paper, through the analysis of a concrete example, a complex process of private collection of historical documents transformation into an ethnic archive is presented, in order to achieve influence within ethnic community as well as the state as a whole. An attempt has been made to describe this phenomenon, and to identify, isolate and define all the actors in this process, in order to illuminate this rather neglected scientific problem. Particular attention is devoted to describing the socio-political context in which this process takes place.
