Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the impact made by combats fought by the Polish Legions on the events that during the First World War put the Polish question into the international arena and prepared favourable conditions for the formation of the Blue Army, and also on the attempt to answer the question what could have happened had there been no Polish Legions. An attempt was made to assess the potential consequences that would result if there had been no Blue Army in Poland in the summer of 1919, and to analyse Józef Piłsudski’s influence on decisive moments of the war between Poland and Bolshevik Russia.
