Technical Text Selection Criteria for ESP Materials

Summary/Abstract: The broadening of the geographical frontiers of the European Union brings new opportunities, the number of the foreign investors in Romania is higher every day, the country’s relationship with other European countries, and not only with them, are more and more developed. Thus, we can assume that the professionals (irrespective of the domain) with a higher education degree wish to have access to highly qualified jobs, which means they have to meet not only the technical professional requirements but also the collateral ones, like the access to specialized information in a foreign language. To have access to this type of information, the technical student needs to get familiarized with the specialized vocabulary and its particularities which can be acquired only within an academic environment with specialized teachers. It is the goal of this article to present a few criteria of choosing/developing teaching materials for ESP based on the author’s experience.
