Summary/Abstract: The content refers to former and binding law and provisions on establishing and liquidating of private universities. The author begins with describing the origins of first university in Poland — Academy of Cracow, its role for the state and significance of the concession in university formation. The further reference to the legal rules that governed the process of foundation and activity of universities in Poland before 2nd World War and later in communist Republic of Poland introduces the readers to particular provisions applied by the legislator at that time and even nowadays. Mrs. Łaba-Waszczykowska emphasises the meagre scope of legislation for the process of winding up of the university. The lack of precise and detailed rules in this respect is recognized by the author as implicating uncertainty and discrepancy in administrative decisions and rulings.
